To help you decide what kind of board it is you want, the following glossary has been included. This should serve to help you have a better understanding of all the options available that go into the shaping of your surfboard.

Previous experience - beginner, advanced or how many years of surfing. Shaping - the style of board, i.e., high performance thruster, hybrid, longboard, or any combination that makes sense.

Length - the bottom measured length (waterline length) of the board, which is the convention.

Width - maximum width measured at the widest part of the outline, usually near center.

Thickness - maximum thickness at the thickest part of the board, usually near center.

Nose and Tail - the width of the outline measured 12" from each end.

Tail shape - the actual outline shape of the tail, i.e., square, squash, rounded pin, etc.

Deck contours - the width-wise shape of the deck, i.e., flat, semi-flat, domed or semi-domed.

Bottom contours - The bottom of your board can greatly influence its performance. Older surfers sometimes prefer a flat bottom with vee off the tail. There are still modern shapes (mostly bigger boards) that use vee on the bottom for performance. Most shapers put concaves on the bottoms of their shortboards. The triple concave bottom increases speed with each turn. Riders have noticed continuous spurts of speed with each rail to rail transition. It has been one of the greatest contributors to hi performance surfing over the last 2 decades. The triple concave is cut into most of our models and is recommended even on longboards.

Rails - the profile of the rail as viewed in a cross section, i.e., thin and tapered, full and not tapered, or any description that makes sense. Each rail shape has its positive and negative characteristics that it adds to the performance of the shape. It is best for people to find a rail they like and stick with its shape.

Blank - The foam core that the board is shaped from. Only dark foam is used which provides the best strength to weight ratio of any foam available. Super Blue (lighter) Super Green (heavier)

Stringers - Wood stringers add strength and rigidity to the boards construction. They also add Weight and give the shape a classic look. Custom stinger glue ups are available. On Longboards triple stringers are available as well as double and 4 stringer combos.

Typical use - where the board is going to be surfed most.

Shaping Comments - anything you would like to get across to Mike to help him shape a board best suited for you!

Graphics - describe the color design you have in mind in your own words, or draw it on a sheet of paper.

Lamination - strong, average, light, or very light. Remember, stronger boards are heavier. Stock boards are glassed with all 6 oz glass on funboards and longboards. Shortboards are glassed with a combination of 4 and 6 oz glass. The lightest glass job would be an all 4 oz lamination. This would produce a 4 lb shortboard and a 10 lb longboard.

Labels - describe which labels and their color, and draw where you would like them placed on the board.

Fins/boxes -The main three fin options are F.C.S. tri sets, Single fin Box, or single fin box with F.C.S. side bytes, However there are many variations of fins available, ranging in all differentsizes to fit the conditions and the surfers preference.

FUTURE FIN SYSTEMS ARE NOW AVALABLE! The future system is a strong and rigid fin system. Check out all the specs @ www.futuresfins.com. All stock boards now feature future fin system. We still offer FCS as well as the standard box setups. We are dedicated to bringing you the lightest, strongest, most functional fin system for high performance surfing.

Pinlines - any black lines going around and highlighting your art work.

Special instructions - mainly for the finish of the board, either a sanded finish, or glossed andpolished (two more steps).

Blank - The Foam choice determines the strength and weight of your custom board. Our own custom eps foam is available upon request.

Balsa boards - I have shaped Balsa wood before it will take a few weeks to get the blank shipped, but it is well worth the wait.
